Administrative/Biographical HistoryPaul Heller was born in Warsaw, Poland and graduated as an engineer from Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge, England. Together with his wife, Edwina Heller, they fled Europe hours before the German invasion of Warsaw, escaping through Hungary to England before finally settling in Canada.

After a brief stay in Montreal, the Hellers moved to Vancouver, where Paul and his brother Sam Heller acquired the Pacific Pine Co. lumber mill in New Westminster, BC. In their adopted hometown, the Hellers raised daughters Irene and Kitty (deceased) and celebrated 75 years of marriage.

The Hellers were strong supporters of music and the arts in Vancouver and were deeply committed to the city's Jewish community.
