Dunner, Barry (1957-)

BiographyBarry Dunner is the son of Holocaust survivors Samuel Dunner (b. 1907; d. 1993) and Else Krieger (b. 1913; d. 2000). Barry attended Vancouver Talmud Torah, as well as Yeshiva University in New York. He earned his master’s degree from New York University.

In 1991, Barry visited his mother’s hometown of Bielsko-Biała, Poland. While touring Auschwitz, he met Sigmund Sobolewski, an activist and Polish Catholic survivor of Auschwitz. The meeting ultimately resulted in a documentary directed by award-winning director and producer, David Paperny, entitled Prisoner 88, released by Ark Films in 1995.

Barry worked for the Jewish Family Service Agency in Vancouver and in property management. He was Executive Director of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre for many years. He is married to Su T. Fitterman. They have two children.
