SynopsisRita was born in Bacău, Romania in May of 1931. She describes her large extended family. She recalls anti-Jewish regulations that forced her out of public school. She describes attending a Jewish school. She recalls German occupation and Romanian fascists. She describes her father avoiding deportation due to assistance from an officer. She recalls her brother taken for forced labour. She describes hiding during pogroms by Romanians. Rita describes liberation by Soviet troops. She describes moving to Vienna, living in the Rothschild Hospital then in Displaced Persons camps. Rita recalls training with a Zionist organization to prepare for a kibbutz. She describes her marriage to another survivor. She describes immigrating to Israel then Canada. She discusses learning about her husband’s experiences.
