Artefacts from this accession were collected by the donor while he was stationed Bloemendaal, Holland where his duties included guarding German Wehrmacht supplies. Bartering between civilians and Allied soliders was common and the donor obtained several artefacts in this manner. 

The donor served in Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry regiment in 1944 during the invasion of Italy before joining the the First Canadian Army during the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945.
