Administrative/Biographical HistoryDr. Tom Perry was born in Asheville, North Carolina. He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1942 and later worked as a pediatrician and professor in the department of pharmacology and therapeutics at UBC. Perry served in the 174th Medical Battalion, US Third Army under General Patton in the Second World War. He entered Buchenwald nine days after liberation; his experience there led him to become a pacifist. As a result of his pacifist politics, Perry was investigated by the Fact-Finding Committee on Un-American Activities in the early 1950s, and was forced out of his pediatrics practice in Los Angeles. He moved to Canada in 1962 and settled in Vancouver, BC. He and his wife Claire Joan Lippman Perry had four children and several grandchildren. Perry passed away from prostate cancer in 1991.
