His studies for the rabbinate were interrupted after one year when he was interned as an "Enemy Alien" and shipped to Canada under military guard where he remained in internment camps until his release in 1942, nearly two years after he was taken from his yeshiva in London. He was ordained rabbi in 1948 in Toronto.
