Summary"Our father and grandfather, Izidor (Chayim Yisroel ben Chananya Yomtov Lipa ve-Esther) Tischler was a participant in the most seminal of events in 20th century Jewish history... From his roots in a backward, Chassidic shtetl in rural Transylvania and teenage years in the Satmar yeshiva, to the inhumanity and loss of the Shoah, to the risk and adventure of making his way to Palestine, fighting in the Irgun underground army for the creation of a Jewish state, and active role in the War of Independence, the history that Saba Chayim lived played a major role in who we are the lives we live today. With Saba Chayim at the ripe age of 82, I decided to capture his story in a document. The source materials are a 1998 video interview by the Vancouver Holocaust [Centre] Society and interviews conducted by me in June 2008." —Randy Tischler, page 1
